Physiotherapists are dedicated to enhancing and optimizing the quality of life and movement capabilities of individuals, covering various aspects such as prevention, treatment, intervention, palliation, and rehabilitation.

History:

The Department of Physiotherapy is fully equipped for Onco-rehabilitation and provides training to Physiotherapy interns in this field. The team comprises skilled Physiotherapists dedicated to enhancing patients’ quality of life and movement abilities across prevention, treatment, intervention, palliation, and rehabilitation. Physiotherapists collaborate with patients, healthcare professionals, families, and communities to deliver holistic, evidence-based care that aims to improve the patients’ quality of life throughout their cancer journey.

Academic Activities

The department provides a comprehensive training program in oncology rehabilitation for physiotherapy students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels from various universities. We conduct senior internship programs spanning six months for graduates and postgraduates in Physiotherapy. 

Clinical postings are available for current undergraduate and postgraduate physiotherapy students.

Inpatient Physiotherapy / Rehabilitation Programme

Our Inpatient Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Program collaborates closely with the medical and surgical teams to shorten hospital stays and enhance patients’ physical capabilities. These services are administered in the intensive care unit, postoperative ward, and patient rooms.

Our services encompass:

  • Postoperative rehabilitation
  • Gait training
  • Electrotherapy
  • Neuro muscular rehabilitation
  • Designing and recommending corrective and supportive splints and braces in collaboration with orthotists.

    Out Patient Department

    At our Outpatient Department, our physiotherapists utilize a diverse range of treatments to mitigate symptoms such as pain, fatigue, dyspnea, and neurological impairments, all aimed at enhancing the patients’ quality of life.

    We also specialize in:

    • Our department is equipped with advanced tools to address lymphedema arising from mastectomy and lower limb inguinal nodal dissections.
    • Prior to surgery, our physiotherapists play a crucial role in educating patients, caregivers, and family members about the importance of respiratory and cardiovascular exercises. Chest physiotherapy is vital for maintaining clear lung function.
    • We offer various techniques including electrotherapy, cryotherapy, and positioning, along with relaxation strategies.
    • Our team provides treatments like massage, manual lymphatic drainage, joint mobilization, exercise and movement prescriptions, as well as relaxation techniques.
    • We work on improving posture and gait to enhance overall mobility and functional ability.
    • We design exercise protocols and cardiovascular training programs to enhance the patients’ overall fitness and stamina.
